Area information
Praça do Comércio (3 km) - This magnificent plaza, facing the river, is the beginning of Lisbon's downtown. It is also known as Terreiro do Paço, meaning 'Garden of the Palace', relating to its function before the Great Earthquake of 1755.
St. Jorge's Castle (5 km) - Located up the hill, with a great view over the city and the river. If you have the energy, get there by walking from downtown, going through the fantastic old neighborhood of Alfama.
Santa Justa's Elevator. (2 km) - Located downtown, this elevator was designed by a follower of French engineer Gustav Eiffel and connects the downtown to the Trindade, located several metres uphill.

From Portela Airport (Lisbon, 10 km), take a taxi (10 minutes, costs EUR 25-30) or airbus (line 91, every 20 minutes, costs EUR 1.20) to the city centre.
By Public Transport:
Nearest metro station: Picoas or Marques (100 m).
Nearest train station: Gare do Oriente (6 km).
Nearest bus stop: Fontes Pereira de Melo (Principle city lines,100 m).
By Car:
- From all roads, follow the city centre indications or Marques de Pombal square.
- Once there, continue to the Fontes Pereira de Melo street until Sottomayor Palace. The hotel is above it.
